How to Make a Wobbly Reese in Serum

If you make drum and bass, you need to know how to make reeses. When you pitch up, you want that faster wobbly reese.

My notes from this Short

01

An EQ bell as the phaser

The most important part is adding phasers. I do it with an EQ on bell mode, take down the gain and add LFO 2 to the frequency. That same LFO 2 also goes to the level of oscillator B. Disable its BPM, take it to around 2 and add the note to its rate as well.

Serum effects for a wobbly drum and bass reese: distortion on Diode 1, an EQ with a bell cut and modulation on its frequency, and the compressor on multiband
An EQ bell taken down, with LFO 2 on its frequency.
02

The note on the detune and the fine tune

Make a shape on the note source and add it to the detune, and slightly to the fine tune as well. That gives you the faster wobbly reese when you pitch up. Both saws are pitched down two octaves, mono and always gliding on.

03

A little detune from Hyper Dimension

The oscillators get very little detune, just some fine tune on B and the unison on 2. Because of that, I add a little bit of detune with Hyper Dimension at the end.
