The Four Basics of a Drum & Bass Reese

Here are the basics for reeses, in four points: detune, a reese that moves faster as it goes higher, phasers and distortion.

01

A flanger filter as the phaser

Phasers are one of the four basics, and I make them with a filter. Take the flanger Phs 12+ and have LFO 1 move it around. Disable BPM, put it on 2 hertz and assign the note source to the rate, so the higher you go, the faster it moves. You can even add one more phaser with an EQ that LFO 1 moves.

02

Faster as the reese goes higher

If your reese goes higher, it should move faster. You can already hear that when you detune the two saws, with the fine tune on B or the unison modes. Accentuate it with the note source. Make a shape where nothing happens on the lower notes, but the higher notes get detuned more, and you get that faster reese.

03

Tube or diode 1 for the distortion

The last basic is distortion, and you can use tube or diode 1. To spice it up, add some detune, some dimension and a multiband compressor with the highs taken down.
