How to Make Your DnB Drums Punch Through the Mix

Here's a trick for punchy and powerful drums that actually punch through your mix.

My notes from this Short

01

Add attack to the kick and snare together

Put the kick and the snare in one mixer channel and add attack. I use the Kilohearts Transient Shaper. With just the attack, it's going over 0 dB and nothing's really happening.

02

Clip the drums against 0 dB

Add a soft clipper with some post gain and an inflator after the transient shaper, so it clips against 0 dB. This way the drums actually punch through in your drop. If you want them punchier, just add more attack and more post gain.

Sonnox Oxford Inflator Native in FL Studio on the (Default 1) preset: input 0.0 dBr, effect 0 %, curve 0.0, output 0.0 dBr, with Clip 0dBr and In switched on and Band Split off
The Inflator with every setting at 0 and Clip 0dBr on.
